Better Than a GIF?

What could be better than a GIF? Could it be a super GIF? Check this out,

That is what the maker has named a flixel, a “living photograph”. It is created by using the Apple-only software named Cinemagraph, from the Flixel company in Canada. Their iPhone app Cinemagraph Pro just won an Apple Design Award.

They briefly describe the work flow as: “Shoot a short video, import it, select the range of motion, and apply a mask to reveal the region of a still image that will move endlessly in a seamless loop.” And what seems to make it really marvelous is you can do it using just your iPhone and the app – no need for oodles of expensive camera equipment and hundreds of dollars for Photoshop.

The end result is actually an .mp4 file, but they discuss being able to save the end products as GIFs or short movies.

I haven’t yet found any true pornish flixels, but I’m lookin’! If you curious readers/viewers find one let us know in the comments.
