GIF of the Week – When It Rains

Here at Morton Salt Company, we’ve been through six iterations of our famous logo –  the “Morton Salt Girl,” a young girl walking in the rain with an opened umbrella and scattering salt behind her from a cylindrical container of table salt.

Even though that logo is one of the ten best-known symbols in the United States, it was first invented in 1914, and our marketing people hound us about keeping things fresh.

Our new bosses at K+S Aktiengesellschaft also want it to be “edgier” for the 21st century. Here at HQ in Chicago, we don’t think you need edgy to sell table salt, but, hey, we’re just employees now.

So we did what everyone does these days – we put an ad on Craigslist, with an open call for models to be the new Morton Salt Girl.

The first girl in the door was the only one we interviewed. Our Chairman was watching via Skype from Kassel and once he saw her, that was that.

That’s actually Paz de la Huerta, by the way, from the movie Limits of Control.

GIF of the Week – Choir Practice

The Saint Agnes School for Wayward Girls had a legendary choir.

Thursday afternoon practice was one of the big reasons why.

The choir mistress called it IMAEP (individual manually assisted ensemble practice).

At 3:30 p.m. sharp, they were required to lay on their mats and solo, but all together.

How to Back Up Your Tumblr Adult Blog and Save It From Yahoo Oblivion

Few know better than I that sinking feeling of popping open the computer one morning and finding you’ve been erased – Blogger/Google did that to me almost three years ago now, and my Blogger blog was simply shut down, no warning, no appeal, never to be seen again. All images uploaded (I had over 700) simply vanished and could be be found or rescued. They killed my entire Google account including my gmail address. And all, I believe, because “someone” complained.

The same thing happened to Garm, who was, and still is but not on Blogger, marvelously creative at image reworking and manipulation. I warned him when it happened to me, to no avail. Happily I archived a number of his images which are scattered through the collections on the pages under Galleries up top, and I featured his work in three of the DJs of Porn posts (first, second, and third).

So. What about this Tumblr dustup?

Now Yahoo has bought Tumblr, and for some weeks before the deal was announced, Tumblr had been making the Tumblr porn blogs invisible to search engines, especially Google, by the way it handled the robots.txt file. Sex blogger Bacchus at ErosBlog (not on Tumblr :)) who has been blogging on sex since 2002, has documented this and come up with detailed instructions and a rationale for you all out there in carnal land to back up your porn Tumblr blogs and save them from possible no warning doom. Here is his post reblogged in full, and props to him for taking the time, energy and interest to offer this solution: Continue reading →

Video of the Year – Sublime

A short break this week from GIF of the Week so’s to have a look at my nominee for Video of the Year. I don’t often post material without some carnal angle – ’cause that’s what we’re here for, right? – but very occasionally something so entrances me that I can’t resist. The Cities of  Light post was one such, and the Holiday Lights post was another.

This is yet another, my nomination for video clip of the year, and it is simply sublime. The creator has not titled it other than using the sound track name, so I entitle it Sublime. The sound track is ღ Aloha Ke Akua by Nahko Bear and Medicine for the People. More details after the clip.

You can download that music track for free from Nahko’s Soundcloud channel.

So the clip was created by “some guy” Nino Canino, who goes by the moniker SailinJerry on YouTube. He put together and edited video clips by Mexican cinematographers Pedro Torres y Diego Pernía who made the original video of places in Mexico.

Their original footage was used for a series of commercials called “Estrellas del Bicentenario”, which was part of the Bicentennial celebration intended to reflect the natural beauty of Mexico to the world. It aired in 2010 on Televisa. Then he added the Nahko music track. Props, brother!
